Key Budget highlights affecting health policy.
- Cuts to other government departments will exclude the NHS
- The health in pregnancy grant to be abolished from April 2011 and the Sure Start maternity grant will be restricted to the first child
- Child benefit to be frozen for next three years
- Disability living allowance will not be reduced, but a medical assessment will be applied to new and existing claimants from 2013

It is so important to get the economy right now. The last Labour government had let us down by creating a nation of receiving and not giving. You have done the right thing for this budget. Keep up the good work.

For too long people from deprived areas have disproportionately shouldered the burden of heart disease. This has to change. Death rates from heart disease across the country must match those we see in south east England or fall even lower.
