Sir Patrick founded the All-Party Arts and Heritage Group in 1974 and has been Chairman since 1979. The aim of the group is to promote interest in the arts and heritage in Westminster. They have regular meetings with speakers from such organisations as The National Trust and The Arts Fund and also gallery visits - for more details please see below.

The Goldsmiths Hall - Treasures of the English Church - Wednesday, 11th June

The Goldsmiths Company have kindly invited us to view 'Treasures of the English Church; Sacred Gold and Silver 800 to 2000'. This is the largest and most important exhibition of its kind ever staged. The Clerk to the Company, Dick Melly and the Curator, Timothy Schroder will greet us. We should arrive at 8.45 am and will be given breakfast on arrival. The Hall is in Foster Lane EC2. The closest tube stations are St Paul's (five minutes walk) and Mansion House (eight minutes walk).

NHMF Exhibition in the Upper Waiting Hall - Monday, 23rd June

The National Heritage Memorial Fund is putting on an exhibition in the 'Upper Waiting Hall' from the 23rd to 27th June. This 'fund of last resort' has saved many exceptional items for this Country. The exhibition will include images of the Marie Rose the Blue Rigi and the Siegfried Sassoon Manuscripts. The exhibition will be opened by Sir Patrick Cormack on the 23rd June at 6.00 pm. There is a reception from 6.30 to 8.00 pm in Dining Room B.

O2 Arena - Tutankhamun - Thursday, 26th June

We have kindly been invited to view 'Tutankhamun: The Golden Age of the Pharaohs', and will be met at the O2 main entrance, Blue Concierge Desk by Phil Beard, Chairman of the O2 and Rosa D'Alessandro, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of AEG Europe. We will be shown part of the O2 Arena enroute for the exhibition, which is held in 'The Bubble'. This is the only European venue for the exhibition, which is designed to raise money for the Cairo Museum where these extraordinary artefacts are permanently housed. An audio tour will be available for members. We should arrive at 8.45 am at the O2 Arena. The quickest way of getting there is on the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich, which is adjacent to the Arena and takes 25 minutes from Westminster Tube Station.

Royal Academy - Summer Exhibition and HannershØi Exhibition - Thursday, 3rd July

Dr Charles Saumarez Smith has kindly invited us to view this years 'Summer Exhibition'. In the Sackler Gallery there is the first retrospective in this country of the work of 'Vilhelm HannershØi (1864 - 1916 )'. The great Danish painter's portraits, landscapes and city views reveal him as one of the most beautiful painters of his time. The exhibition is subtitled 'The Poetry of Silence'. We should arrive at 8.45 am.

Meeting - Museums, Libraries and Archives Council - Wednesday, 16th July

Roy Clare CBE, Chief Executive of MLA will address the group. Museums, Libraries and Archives are at the heart of communities and Roy Clare will discuss the current challenges and the future opportunities facing his organisation.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 7 at 5.00 pm.

Tate Britain - The Lure of the East - Thursday, 17th July

Dr Stephen Deuchar has kindly invited us to view the exhibition 'The Lure of the East: British Orientalist Paintings'. The exhibition will feature artists who travelled in the near and middle east between 1780 and 1930. We should arrive at 8.45 am at the Manton entrance, Atterbury Street. We will be given coffee and croissant on arrival.

British Museum - Hadrian: Empire and Conflict - Tuesday, 14th October

Dr Neil MacGregor has kindly invited us to view the major exhibition 'Hadrian: Empire and Conflict', which shows the achievements and legacies of Hadrian who was Emperor of Rome from 117 to 138 AD. (This is displayed were the Terracotta Warriors exhibition was housed). We should arrive at 8.45 am and will be given coffee and croissant on arrival.

REMINDER

Meeting - Royal Mint - Tuesday, 10th June

Dr Kevin Clancy, curator at the Royal Mint will address the group about the history and heritage of the Royal Mint; involvement in celebrating national anniversaries; how designs are selected and plans for future coins.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 13 and will begin at 5.30 pm.

English Heritage - Churches Tour - Tuesday, 17th June

I will write separately confirming details nearer the time to all those who have put their names down for this morning tour of three Churches organised by English Heritage. If any other member is interested please let me know and I will see if it is possible to include you and will write to you. This is a MEMBERS ONLY tour.
