That this House views with the gravest concern the scale ofthe human tragedy that is now unfolding in terms of both dead andinjured following the earthquake on 8th October in Pakistan andIndia; notes that the worst hit city was Muzaffarabad where theepicentre of the earthquake occurred and that estimates of thosekilled are currently in excess of 30,000; extends sincerestcondolences to the relatives and friends of those killed andinjured; and calls on the Government to respond speedily torequests for financial and physical assistance and to use itsPresidency of the European Union to co-ordinate both immediaterelief and long-term reconstruction of the devastatedareas.
