West Derbyshire
is one of the geographically largest seats in the Midlands, covering approximately 350 square miles. The northern part of the constituency lies within the Peak District National Park. It includes the towns of Belper, Bakewell, Matlock, Wirksworth and Ashbourne and many villages.
Much of the constituency is rural, with sheep and dairy farming in the north and more arable farms in the south.
However, industry in the constituency includes the traditional areas of textiles and quarrying, but there is also a growing emphasis on ‘high tech' work.
