Some motions Bob tabled:
GURKHA VETERAN PENSIONS
13.10.2009
Spink, Bob
That this House is concerned that all Gurkha veterans do not receive the same monthly payment as their UK counterparts; notes that over 12,000 Gurkha veterans who retired prior to 1997 and would qualify for a pension if they had been UK soldiers presently receive no pension and are thus discriminated against; recognises that the inferior Gurkha pension is leading many elderly, infirm and increasingly vulnerable Gurkha veterans to believe that UK residency is the only option to receive fair treatment by the UK; further notes that if the pressure to settle in the UK were reduced, considerable savings would be made and less pressure would be placed on the UK welfare system; and therefore urges the Government to address the issue of Gurkha pension inequality.
ASSET DISPOSAL AND THE DARTFORD CROSSING
13.10.2009
Spink, Bob
That this House is concerned about Government plans to sell off the Dartford Crossing; notes that this crossing is an integral part of the M25 ring road; further notes that EU regulations only allow for tolls as a means of preventing congestion, yet the Dartford Crossing tolls actually cause congestion and increased carbon emissions; is further concerned that in private ownership toll charges are more likely to be increased; and therefore calls on the Government to remove the tolls and make the crossing part of the public highway like other roads, bridges and tunnels.
INDEPENDENT NEWSAGENTS
12.10.2009
Spink, Bob
That this House supports the thousands of independent newsagents providing valuable services to local communities; is concerned that the future of independent newsagents will be put at risk by the abolition of the National Newspapers Code of Practice on 20 October 2009; and calls on the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills to make an urgent referral of the news industry to the Competition Commission for a full market investigation.
URBAN FOX HUNTING
12.10.2009
Spink, Bob
That this House expresses deep concern at the growing number of incidents related to urban fox hunting; notes with shock the cruel manner in which these foxes are tortured and killed, often by dogs used in illegal fights; and congratulates those charities and organisations involved in rescuing and caring for abused and abandoned animals.
LOW CARBON ECONOMY
12.10.2009
Spink, Bob
That this House notes the ambitious Greenpeace manifesto on a low carbon economy and the dedication of Greenpeace's members to publicising the need for change; recognises the Government's commitment to tackling climate change; but urges all political parties to develop the much-needed greener policies to deal with the challenge of climate change
YOUTH JOBS IN SPORT AND LEISURE
13.10.2009
Spink, Bob
That this House notes that the Government plans to create 2,000 jobs in the sport and leisure industry, but is concerned that imposing a 10 month unemployed rule on access to sports jobs would improperly disadvantage youngsters who have studied sports science and management; and calls on the Government to ensure equality of opportunity and not to discriminate against youngsters who have worked hard to gain sport and leisure qualifications.
