Woodmansterne sports club to receive £400,000

    Friday, July 4 2008

Local Mp says sport is vital to the local community.

Woodmansterne Sports Club is to benefit from £400,000 grant from the Football Foundation. The grant will fund half the cost of a six team changing room. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is to fund the other half.

At 4pm this afternoon Crispin Blunt, MP for Reigate, joined Cllr Adam de Save, Executive Member for Leisure and Wellbeing along with representatives of the Surrey Football Association and local councillors, Richard Wagner, John Stephenson and Richard Mantle at the club. They were met by some younger football enthusiasts who stand to benefit from the new changing rooms.

Speaking from Woodmansterne this afternoon Crispin Blunt said, "A grant of this size will make a step-change in the quality of facilities at Woodmansterne. Everyone to do with the project is to be congratulated, particularly the Club and the Council.

"By comparison to other countries, in Britain we have not reflected the importance of sport in the community with the appropriate facilities. This major grant will significantly address this for football in Woodmansterne. It is a great example and one I hope that will be followed all over the constituency."
