    Visit of Mike Hall MP to Queen Charlottes wood scout campsite

    July 21 2009

    Our local MP Mike Hall paid a visit to our campsite on 20th June. His visit was in response to an invitation from April and Ian Nicholas who manage the site. They had been aware that Mike had also expressed a wish to visit us at some time.

    As well as providing facilities for camping QCW also offers indoor accommodation, available for most of the year. Mike was given a tour by April and Ian of the ten acre site beginning with the indoor accommodation. This is a log cabin called The Hideaway. Mike was obviously impressed with the building and the standard to which it had been maintained over its fifteen year life.

    The tour continued onto the camping sites (open grassed areas) where Mike was able to meet the scouts and leaders and chat to them about what they were doing. At the time they were carrying out various tasks at different bases (e.g. making a camp gadget). Mike said he had done quite a lot of camping and enjoyed it. As the tour continued April and Ian described how the campsite had developed since the Scouts first started to use it in 1964. After completing the tour that had included a visit to the camp chapel Mike was taken to a small cabin (called The Bothy) which the leaders were using as a base for running the competition. Over a cup of tea he was able to chat to the leaders including Trevor Burgess the camp organiser and John Frodsham, District Commissioner, who presented Mike with a "Well Done" certificate from the camping competition. Mike also received a Queen Charlottes Wood badge.

    It was a very informal visit. Everyone was very appreciative of the amount of time which Mike spent with us in what must be a very busy schedule and the interest which he showed. He thanked everybody as he left for a most enjoyable and informative visit.

    Mike Hall said;

    "Queen Charlottes Wood Scout Campsite is an absolutely fabulous facility. As someone who has enjoyed many happy hours camping, I really appreciated the setting and the facilities at the site.

    "I also got the opportunity to speak to the scouts that were camping on the site for the weekend. They were all very busily involved in the camping competition.

    "Having visited the site I can see why scout groups from all over the county and further afield return to the site time and time again"
