Tony Baldry confused at what is happening at the Defence Storage and Distribution Agency (DSDA)

    2 June 2009

North Oxfordshire MP Tony Baldry has been trying to discover from Ministers what they see as the future role of the Defence Storage and Distribution Agency based in Bicester but is getting obfuscating responses.

"I tabled a Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Defence asking very simply if he could tell me about the future role of DSDFA" said Tony Baldry.

"I received the following answer from Defence Ministers:

"The Defence Storage and Distribution Agency is being reviewed under the Treasury’s Operational Efficiency Programme in order to maximise value for money for the taxpayer. A progress report was published in the Operational Efficiency Programme Final Report in April 2009. Work to date has concentrated on identifying a range of possible business models to deliver its services whilst seeking to minimise its ongoing capital investment requirement. The next phase of work will also include a review of the boundaries, synergies and relationship with the Defence Support Group.

Further progress will be reported in the Pre Budget statement in the autumn."

"I have no idea what this means in reality and what this means for local people employed by DSDA and I am concerned that Defence Ministers should give such obfuscating replies. It doesn’t inspire confidence.

If anyone locally can translate the Minister’s reply into plain English I would be most grateful"
