Doug Naysmith MP backs the UK's first Cardiovascular Patients' Bill of Rights
Doug Naysmith MP says it is time to step up our efforts against heart disease - the UK's biggest killer. Dr Naysmith put forward an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament, backing the UK's first Cardiovascular Patients' Bill of Rights, which was launched at the Houses of Parliament this week. He said, "Many of my constituents will have been personally affected by heart disease. It's vital that patients and their families know what to expect from the NHS, from the moment they call an ambulance, through hospital care, to their rehabilitation at home.
"We have made tremendous strides in improving cardiovascular care in this country but we must do more – we still have higher death rates from heart disease than many other European countries. The Cardiovascular Patients' Bill of Rights highlights the needs of patients around the country and demonstrates the need for an overhaul of NHS cardiovascular care standards."
