Simon Burns MP receives letter from Transport Minister about increased rail capacity on the Chelmsford to Liverpool Street line

    3 April 2009

Commenting on the letter he has received from the Transport Minister, Simon Burns MP said:

"For a number of years I have been calling and lobbying for an increase in capacity on the Chelmsford to Liverpool Street line to help alleviate the overcrowding problems so many of my constituents experience.

"With frequent, above inflation rises in the price of train tickets it is essential that those who do wish to use the services in peak times can do so as comfortably as possible because at present, people are paying through the nose and often not even getting a seat.

"I warmly welcome the Minister's announcement that longer trains will be provided on the Chelmsford to Liverpool Street line, with a small number of additional trains as well, because there is a desperate need for greater capacity on this line during rush hours.

"I look forward to hearing the more detailed plans on how these changes will be achieved by the rail operator, and what impact these improvements will have on the standard of service provided to those using the network."
