Problems not yet over: Spink
19 May 2009
Parliament is suffering a nervous breakdown and we need urgent action to revive our democracy.
I welcome the Speakers decision to go, but that does not solve the problems.
My motions in the last two years to scrap the allowances, change MP's employment of staff and stop MPs moonlighting must now be implemented.
We must take back control of our country from the EU. We must hold a general election so a new Government can take control. And MPs who fraudulently broke the rules, must be prosecuted.
Perhaps, (as I told the BBC, Radio 4, Five Live, and Talk Sport today), Ann Widdecombe may make an interim Speaker until the election, then an able and independent minded MP like John Bercow or Frank Field could take on the role.
