    “MP’s Allowances

There’s a great deal being said about MP’s allowances at the moment and the House of Commons Commission is expected to produce a report, with recommendations, by the end of July. One issue I’ve been asked a lot about this week is how I use Assisted Costs Allowance, which is intended to reimburse to MPs the costs of living away from home. Quite simply, the great majority of my use of the ACA over the last 7 years has been to help with either the cost of a House in London or for hotels there. From time to time there has been a repair or renewal and of course MPs must pay Council Tax at both ends. I am relaxed about the likelihood of future rule changes and look forward to see what the proposals are to be. The most important things are that MPs are able to do their jobs and that the public have confidence in the funding system.”
