    “ Gordon Brown is building on our platform of economic stability while still investing in education and skills, the education of our children, their long term future and our public services.

    “ Every school in Warrington North will benefit from the measures he announced. “

    “ Every primary and secondary school pupil will benefit from the free school book scheme and from the increase in the direct payments made to schools for head teachers to spend on what is best for their school. “

    The MP also welcomed the news that government funded apprenticeships would increase to 500,000.

    She also highlighted the ‘good news for families’;

    “ Gordon Brown confirmed that from next year the child element of the Child Tax Credit will increase giving more support to the 4,000 families (7,300 plus children) in Warrington North. “

    She finished by praising the Chancellor’s stewardship of the economy which had she said:

    “ built a strong, stable economy and allowed the government to invest in public services and schools as well as helping people into jobs. The days of 10% inflation, 15% mortgage rates and 3 million jobless under the Tories were now a distant memory. “
