MP lends support to local charity's volunteer recruitment drive

Weston-super-Mare MP John Penrose has welcomed the British Heart Foundation's volunteer recruitment drive after visiting the charity's shop in Weston's High Street during the 25th Volunteers' Week.
During his visit the local MP spoke to volunteers and members of the public about the different heart conditions, which claim nearly 200,000 lives every single year in the UK, and the pioneering research and patient care that the British Heart Foundation undertakes.
John said: "The British Heart Foundation provides vital support to anyone suffering from a major heart condition and is undertaking crucial research that can help even more. But despite the importance of this work it has to rely on donations and the help from volunteers in its shops to do this."
"That's why I'm delighted to lend my support to their campaign and urge anyone who has any spare time and wants to make a difference to contact the BHF and see what help they can provide."
BHF Volunteer Manager Lucy Sanders says: "The BHF would not be able to save lives through pioneering heart research or provide care for patients through our network of nurses and Heart HelpLine without the vital funds raised by our dedicated volunteers."
"We're asking you to put you hand on your heart and support the BHF by donating your time. You can volunteer any way you want to and we'd love to hear your ideas on how you want to help".
