MP ALARMED THAT STOKE IS BECOMING NEW RED LIGHT AREA

Police have confirmed to Coventry North East MP, Bob Ainsworth that they have imposed various conditions on prostitutes operating in the Hillfields area and that as a result some have moved and are now operating in Stoke.

Police accept that they need to apply city wide conditions in the future to prevent prostitution just moving from one area to another.

    Bob Ainsworth said:

“This problem has ……. in the Heath Road/Clay Lane area over the last year to a totally unacceptable situation. Prostitutes are plying their trade and there are curb crawlers patrolling at all hours of the day and night.

“I am pleased that the police have effectively driven the trade off the streets of Hillfields but the people of Stoke do not want it in their area.

“We need effective action to tackle the problem and we need in future where conditions like ASBOs are sought to tackle prostitution that the conditions are sought city wide so that the problem isn’t just moved up the street”.
