    Mike Hall MP presents veterans badges

    29 June 2009

    On Saturday 27th June Mike Hall MP hosted a reception at Frodsham Community Centre as part of the Armed Forces Week celebrations.

    At the reception Mike Hall MP presented 5 local veterans with their Veterans Badges.

    The five veterans were:-

    Albert Edgar Crossley who served in the Army from 5/11/1945 to 10/5/1948;

    Paul Joseph Butler who served in the RAF from 27/10/1947 to 13/12/1949;

    Donald Yardley who served in the Merchant Navy from 4/5/1941 to 23/8/1949;

    Michael Frederick Burrows who served in the Army from 23/8/1963 to 2/11/1982, and;

    Donald George Fowler who served in the Home Guard from 7/10/1942 to 31/12/1944.

    This was a wonderful occasion attended by the five veterans and their families and friends. After receiving their badges each veteran shared a few of their service stories.

    We heard about life in the regular army and service in Northern Ireland, the continuing comradeship that still exists after more than 50 years, the importance of the Merchant Navy to success in World War II, what life was like in the Home Guard and how important the RAF was in the success in the 1948 Berlin Airlift.

    Mike Hall said:-

    "It was a real privilege for me to present these five veterans with their Veteran Badge. Each one had made a real contribution to the service of their Country. Each veteran showed real dignity in receiving their badge which they will all wear with real pride."

    "It was a very moving occasion and I am pleased the five veterans were able to bring their families and friends. We had a sense of real life history from real veterans who all did their bit for their Country."

    "I hope that we will be able to repeat this ceremony when other veterans are awarded their Veterans Badge."
