Mike Hall invites local schools to ‘Shine’
10 June 2009
Mike Hall, MP for Weaver Vale, is encouraging local schools to consider taking part in the national Shine festival, which this year takes place between 6 and 10 July.
Mike Hall said,
“Shine Week embraces the energy and enthusiasm of young people, teachers and youth workers. It is a really exciting way to celebrate the talents of our young people and schools can arrange events to mark the week, using the Shine website to raise the profile of their work. Last year over 2,500 schools and organisations took part, involving around one million young people.
“Schools who sign up to be part of the festival via the website will receive a creative kit containing all the basics to get involved. To register all they need to do is visit www.shineweek.co.uk
“Last year many well known high achievers, in diverse fields, such as Dame Kelly Holmes, Alesha Dixon and Miranda Sawyer joined in with Shine Week to celebrate the talents of our young people. And this year Phil Vickery is endorsing the project, as he believes it gives young people the confidence to display their talents, in whatever field they choose.
“If any schools in weaver Vale decide to take part in Shine week, I would love to hear from them, so that I can offer my personal support.”
