Local MP raises the future of the site of the former Davidson Hospital in Girvan

      19th July 2010

      Sandra Osborne MP said:

"It has been suggested to me by constituents that the site of the former Davidson Hospital in Girvan could be used for the recuperation of injured soldiers. This seems to me to be an excellent idea and one which I have put to the Ministry of Defence.

"I have been informed by NHS Ayrshire and Arran that it is now proceeding to dispose of the buildings and the land on the open market and intends to submit an application to the Council to change the designated use of the site to that of residential. However, I have put the suggestion of my constituents to them and would hope that the Council would consider all possibilities."

Cathy Jamieson MSP is raising the issue with the Scottish Parliament and commented:

"Local people value the contribution which has been made by the Davidson Hospital and its staff over the years. Ideally people would like to see the building used for a purpose associated with providing hospital or care facilities. I hope that the Health Board would be prepared to look at all options for the future, including the suggestion being taken up with the MOD by Sandra Osborne MP. I will be asking the Health Secretary to ensure that no barriers would be put in the way if this proves to be a viable option."
