    CURRIE AND BALERNO NEWS 345

    31 March 2009

Sadly, anti-social behaviour and petty crime can affect us here just as it does many other areas throughout Scotland. Fortunately, it’s not widespread but when it happens it can cause distress and sometimes anger.

The police work hard to deal with these problems but they need our help and support. Recently, I meet with the Chief Inspector responsible for the area to discuss the problems you contact me about and to hear what is being done to tackle these problems including some new police initiatives.

They have been very focused on resolving problems which are persistent in individual areas and it is encouraging to hear there has been some improvement in the reduction of petty crime. In the last six months they’ve been trialling alternative approaches to tackling vandalism with the clear aim of reducing incidents and occurrence. These measures will be evaluated at the end of the month and I’ve asked to be told of the outcome.

The police have been continuing to work closely with people - Neighbourhood Partnerships is one of the ways used to discuss local problems and initiatives that could help.

The police do ask for our support in helping them to tackle problems by reporting any incidents no matter how seemingly small – you are not wasting their time. They cannot tackle crimes they are unaware of and a smaller crime may be part of a bigger and wider pattern.

Please do let me know if there are problems in your neighbourhood that you are concerned about.
