COUNTRYSIDE STEWARDSHIP SCHEME MINISTER LAUNCHES NEW GUIDE FOR THE PUBLIC

Countryside Minister Elliot Morley today launched a new guide to the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, “Traditional Farming in the Modern Environment”.

The guide, which has been launched to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Scheme, describes how the scheme has developed, its contribution to conservation and charts some of its many successes.

Speaking at the prize winning “Stewardship in Partnership” show garden, a joint exhibit with the Wildlife Trusts at the Hampton Court Flower Show, Mr Morley said:

“I am delighted to launch this important new guide for the public, which explains what the Government is doing to encourage ‘green' farming through the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. This Scheme, which is expanding rapidly, has already had a marked effect on rural landscapes and features and on the survival of some of Britain's most rare and endangered species. We have a good story to tell.”
