Birmingham MP slams Npower for acting like “hired burglars.”
Sparkbrook and Small Heath MP Roger Godsiff today branded the behaviour of two Npower operatives as resembing that of “hired burglars” as they tried illegally to enter the property of a pensioner who was living on her own and not in at the time.
Roger Godsiff said: “Two men who worked for a company called ‘Richburn’, retained by Npower, attempted to enter the property of my constituent when she was not there. They were only prevented from doing so by the alertness of neighbours, one of whom was a retired policeman, who challenge about the legality of what the men were doing caused them to leave.”
“ This whole episode is an aboslute disgrace” said Mr Godsiff who has written to Npower demanding an explanation for the behaviour of their operatives.
“ There have been various inferences made” he went on to say, “that my constituent had not responded to correspondence from the company; that as she was using so little gas that she must have been ‘on the fiddle’ and that the men sort to gain entry for ‘health and safety’ reasons – none of which, it has transpired, are true or in any event justify the illegal entry that the men where attempting to make”.
Mr Godsiff continued: “ There was no gas emergency reported and my constituent verified that there were not health and safety issues by having her system independently checked out by a registered Corgi engineer; she received no correspondence from Npower to respond to and as for being ‘on the fiddle’ she is a pensioner on a low income and has to carefully watch her bills. Further more, her gas account with Npower was in credit when the break-in took place.
