A delighted Bob Spink announced there will be no prisons imposed on Canvey Island
27 April 2009
Following speculation about two possible prison sites on Canvey Island, campaigning MP Dr. Bob Spink had a personal meeting with Justice Secretary Jack Straw where it was confirmed that no prisons would be built on Canvey Island.
Bob had called for a statement in the House and Jack Straw duly obliged by announcing Canvey would not be a site for a new prison.
Bob Spink said:
"This shows how influential a hard working local MP can be. We have enough issues to consider without the threat of prisons in our community.
We should not be building on our flood plain and the extra traffic and risks involved with prisons make Canvey totally unsuitable for such a scheme."
