Young people's achievements celebrated in second MWH & UKYP Award ceremony

Usman Ali, 16, from Calderdale, is the latest winner of the prestigious MWH / UK Youth Parliament Andrew Rowe Award for outstanding commitment to representing the views of young people. Amongst many other things, Usman single handedly organised an event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Human Rights Act and represented the UK in Geneva at the rights of the Child Convention in 2008.
Other award winners included Lewis Punter (Campaign Award), Uma Akther (Press and Media Award), Johanna Pickering (Supporter's Award) and Becky Huda / Jack Taylor (Community Engagement Award).
The awards, which were presented at Portcullis House in Westminster on 27 January 2010, recognise the outstanding achievements of Members of the UK Youth Parliament in various fields.
The awards are sponsored by the environmental engineering consultancy MWH.
Andy Hamflett, chief executive of the UK Youth Parliament, commented,
"The MWH / UKYP Awards give recognition for the fabulous work of some brilliant young people. All of these young people are not in it for themselves – they are there to represent and bring about positive change for other young people – so it's nice to take a moment to thank and reward them for their work.
