The Blue Cross is disappointed that dog breeding legislation in Wales will be delayed

11 March 2011

Steve Goody, director of external affairs at The Blue Cross said: 'We are disappointed to hear that the Welsh Assembly Government will not be bringing forward regulations to further regulate the breeding of dogs ahead of the elections. There is a clear need for additional measures to improve the welfare of all breeding dogs and their pups in Wales and The Blue Cross and other organisations have put a significant amount of work into the development of the draft regulations.

Our veterinary hospitals across the UK see many sick puppies and kittens that are suspected to have started their lives in unacceptable conditions. The impact on their ongoing health and welfare can have a devastating effect on the unsuspecting owners, both financially and emotionally. We are calling on all Assembly Members to keep the issue of puppy farming high on the agenda and to act as soon as possible'.
