Policy Connect to help local school build eco-garden on August 26th

On 26th August, we'll be helping a local primary school realise their ambition of building an eco-garden on a piece of waste ground.

Charles Dickens School, home to around 600 pupils, and just two minutes walk from Policy Connect’s offices, aims to create an environment where children can learn everything from how to grow their own vegetables to the benefits of harvesting rain water.

The school has already taken delivery of a £ 50,000 ‘eco-pod’ classroom that it hopes to fit-out into a classroom that will sit within the garden area.

Policy Connect will be supplying much-needed time, resources and muscle-power to help clear up the site, establish hard landscaping and make the site safe in time for the start of the new school year in September.

The day has been organised in partnership with Groundwork, a national environmental charity.

Katherine Gillbe, who heads the Policy Connect Environment team, commented:

‘Policy Connect usually deals with environmental policy at the level of government and big-business but this will be a great way of offering the children a chance to learn first-hand the benefits of looking after and understanding their environment.

This is a great opportunity to help one of our local schools which doesn’t presently have access to any green space – and it should be a lot of fun to watch the project develop over the next few months.’
