Liverpool and the world

19 January 2011

Almost £500,000 in European Regional Development Funding (ERDF) is going towards three major exhibitions across National Museums Liverpool venues. These exhibitions will help to encourage regional, national and international visitors to the region.

Liverpool and the World is a programme of three exhibitions, spread over three years (2010 – 2012) highlighting Liverpool's tremendous cultural vibrancy and global reach.

The three exhibitions include Old Master Drawings at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Art and Revolution at the Walker Art Gallery and Titanic at the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

The project fits with the concept of an annual 08 'legacy' programme and will act as a fantastic draw for visitors.

David Malpass, Director of the European Programme at the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), commented: "Investing in our tourism sector is essential to making the region an increasingly attractive place for visitors. National Museums Liverpool venues continue to attract visitors from across the globe and I'm delighted we've been able to support these exciting exhibitions."

Flo Clucas, of Liverpool City Council and a member of the ERDF PMC, commented: "National Museums Liverpool venues are great assets to the city and provide visitors with a wide and varied cultural experience, showing how Liverpool has touched the world.

"These exhibitions provide an excellent opportunity to build on the cultural legacy left by 2008's Capital of Culture year, and I look forward to future exhibitions."
