Press Release
Law Society launches AML directory
19th June 2007
Solicitors needing legal advice on anti-money laundering (AML) compliance can now access an online directory of solicitors who have a dedicated practice in this area. The directory has been established by the Law Society, the representative body for solicitors.
The Law Society provides AML guidance on line, and solicitors should continue to consult this in the first instance. But where legal advice is required, the solicitors on this directory will provide their fellow solicitors with thirty minutes of free legal advice on money laundering issues. Advice is available on issues such as:
· whether information being considered for the making of a SAR is legally professionally privileged
· how much information constitutes a suspicion of money laundering
· Whether you are about to tip off a client
Fiona Woolf, Law Society President, says: “This is another example that shows that the Law Society is stepping up its representational activities to help and support solicitors. Solicitors told us what they needed and by working together with the profession we have developed a practical service specifically to meet those needs.”
