Press Release

Launch of 'Tackling Climate Change, Reducing Poverty' report

Policy Connect / NEF/ Oxfam joint event on Tackling Climate Change and Reducing Poverty on June 16 2009

Next Tuesday will see the parliamentary launch of ‘Tackling Climate Change, Reducing Poverty’ report in Parliament.

The report has been written by a coalition of leading environmental and social justice groups including Oxfam, NEF (the new economics foundation), Capacity Global, Friends of the Earth and the Royal College of Nursing.

The report sets out a clear case for tackling climate change whilst simultaneously creating jobs and promoting a fair society.

Given the state of the global economy and the likely pressures on public spending the panel discussion will be a timely one, providing an ideal opportunity for parliamentarians, civil servants and third-sector organisations to hear about and engage with the key issues at stake.

Speakers include:

Alan Whitehead MP (Chair)
Greg Clark MP, Opposition Minister for Energy and Climate Change
Simon Hughes MP, Opposition Minister for Energy and Climate Change
Antonia Bance, Policy and Communications Manager, UK Poverty, Oxfam
Andrew Simms, Policy Director and head of the Climate Change programme, nef
Maria Adebowale, Director, Capacity Global
