GMB no to police staff cuts

GMB DO NOT RULE OUT STRIKE ACTION OVER CUTS IN PAY AND JOBS OF POLICE STAFF
GMB will not accept the unfair treatment of police staff and the attack on police service staffs' pay and pensions, even if that means taking strike action
GMB which represents police staff in police forces across the country responded to the Winsor Report on police pay and to the report by the Association of Chief Police Officers that 16,000 police staff jobs would be lost.
Sharon Holder, GMB National Officer said, "GMB which represents over 310,000 public service workers, is appalled at the projected swingeing cuts to police staff jobs as a result of the coalition government's slashing of police force budgets.
It is predicted that 16,000 police staff jobs will be lost over the next four years. The figure was announced by the Association of Chief Police Officers' (ACPO) as they responded to the publication of the Winsor report on police officers and staff pay and conditions.
GMB members are already facing an unfair pay squeeze over the next two years and are now facing a further freeze on incremental pay progression and proposals to reduce premium payments. This comes in advance of the Hutton report into public sector pensions, which is expected to recommend an increase in pension contributions by staff, resulting in a loss of take-home pay of several hundreds of pounds.
Police staffs are already unfairly treated in comparison to police officers, who enjoy a no-redundancy policy, leading to many of them taking support staff jobs – a prime case of a two-tier workforce policy.
This is further evidence of the government's blatant attacks on ordinary hard-working people serving the public, while their friends, the bankers, who caused this economic crisis, continue to take home record bonuses.
GMB will do all in its power to fight the unfair treatment of its members working for the police forces and to stop this government's ideological attack on police service staffs' pay and pensions, even if that means taking strike action. "
