Helena Herklots, Services Director at Age UK, said:

'Following the coldest November on record for years and in the midst of an ongoing cold snap, Age UK is urging people in later life to be prepared and take extra precautions to stay warm and well this winter.

'The needless suffering faced by too many older people in winter is unacceptable in this day and age. Age UK has launched its Spread the Warmth campaign to alleviate this suffering by helping older people to stay warm and reminding neighbours and friends of what they can do to help. Age UK offers advice, support and practical services to cope with issues like heating, health and human contact.

'There are some simple steps people can follow to help keep warm and well such as keeping moving - even if it’s just doing a bit of cleaning or making a cup of tea, eating nutritious hot meals and drinks, making sure their seasonal flu jab is up-to-date and keeping homes as warm as possible and draft free.
