Community Development Foundation launches new campaign: 'After the Cuts'
11 May 2011
The Community Development Foundation (CDF) is tonight launching a new campaign asking small community groups to share their experiences of how budget cuts have impacted on them and their work. The campaign, #afterthecuts will run via Twitter @tweetcdf, and will be a place where community groups can share experiences and ideas of how to survive in the face of savage cuts.
The launch tonight will be a gathering of key figures in the voluntary and community sector at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation where attendees will share their own enterprising approaches to survival. CDF will be calling on the sector to encourage community groups to take part in the campaign and will commit to highlighting key issues and themes both to the government and more widely with the sector.
CDF is marking this occasion as the first event held in its new capacity as a charity and social enterprise. Having been a public body for 43 years their status changed on 1st April 2011 following the public body review. This is an exciting opportunity for CDF and one that is enthusing staff and trustees.
Speaking in support of organisations suffering Alison Seabrooke, chief executive of CDF, said today:
“We have worked with over 30,000 small community groups and want to make sure that we help carry their voice to the widest possible audience. We are very proud to say we will continue to help communities. There are many organisations that have worked hard but will not be able to continue – we need to support these organisations, ensuring that the learning is not lost.”
