AA signs up to public health deal

15 March 2011

The Advertising Association (AA) has signed up to Department of Health's Responsibility Deal, with a specific focus on the food, physical activity and responsible drinking pledges.

The Responsibility Deal seeks to tackle public health issues through partnership between government, health professionals and industry. The AA has worked with the Portman Group, advertisers, media owners and agencies to pledge further action on alcohol advertising, including an industry commitment to avoid advertising of alcohol on static poster sites within 100 metres of schools.

The AA also hosts business4life - a coalition of organisations that support the government's Change4Life programme by playing an active role in improving the nation's lifestyle through better diet and physical activity.

AA Chief Executive Tim Lefroy said:

“This is a government that thinks we will get further, faster by working together rather than imposing the heavy hand of regulation. We agree, which is why we have signed the deal and will be supporting its delivery through our members and our networks."
