Manufacturing Institute

Manufacturing Institute

The Manufacturing Institute (www.manufacturinginstitute.co.uk) is an independent charity – driven by manufacturers.

Our Mission

To develop unrivalled UK manufacturing capability by inspiring and educating from classroom to boardroom

Our Beliefs:

• We believe in advancing manufacturing for sustainable economic growth.
• We believe that with the right resources, support and training manufacturers and individuals can realise their full potential and achieve outstanding and sustainable business results.
• We believe that only by bringing together all interested parties and working collaboratively can we truly develop solutions to the modern dilemmas facing manufacturing.

Our objects are:

• to advance education for the public benefit with a particular emphasis on the manufacturing sector
• to promote manufacturing:
• by educating the general public in the needs and capabilities of manufacturing
• by fostering research and development in order to encourage and improve the efficiency of manufacturing and to develop manufacturing for the benefit of the public
• by promoting awareness of the quality and capacities of the physical and intellectual outputs of manufacturing
• by providing information and the results of research in connection with manufacturing to the general public

The Manufacturing Institute has delivered educational programmes to over 50,000 manufacturers in businesses covering all sectors and sizes. The Institute has promoted best practice education for manufacturing since 1994. We have accreditation linkages and current active programmes with over 15 Universities including formal contracts with MIT and Utah State University. All of the Institutes educational programmes make extensive use of current manufacturing personnel in their delivery and we have extensive links and partnerships with sector skills councils, skills academies, vocational training providers and FE and HE.

The Manufacturing Institute recognises that there is a significant scale of activity required to tackle the legacy issues around UK manufacturing and that it cannot delivery all of the necessary solutions alone. As such, we are committed to partnership working on a broad canvass and have an extensive collaborative network in place to support this and a track record of successful delivery with these partners.

The Institute has worked to promote manufacturing as a career destination as a specific charitable campaign since 2005 and has had over 50,000 children engage with its programme of "Make It" challenges held in factories.
