Manufacturing Dialogue

Focus Groups

The first Dods UK Manufacturing Dialogue focus group took place in Tonbridge, Kent on Thursday 10th February.

The purpose of the focus group was to obtain a random sample of opinion from the public, on issues related to manufacturing, which could then be compared with information retrieved from other population sets, such as MPs, and the expert opinion of industry.

The focus group considered:

•What can be done to improve the link between education and the manufacturing industry?

•What subjects or courses could be taught to better equip students for a career in manufacturing?

•Is manufacturing an attractive career path in contemporary Britain?

•Who are the major UK manufacturing companies?

•Is manufacturing growing as a proportion of our national economy?

•How does UK manufacturing fare against foreign competitors?

•How can the government assist manufacturing in the UK?

•Is the UK economy over-reliant on other sectors such as financial services?
