Against Breast Cancer

Unique Research

Against Breast Cancer is a registered charity founded in 1993 that funds unique research into breast cancer. Our aim is to uncover vital information about the disease to increase survival after diagnosis and ultimately to discover a vaccine against breast cancer.

Our research team, based at University College London and Westminster University, is leading an innovative programme which analyses how the cancer cell, patients' natural resistance and their environment interact.

The Whole Woman

Against Breast Cancer's research takes the whole woman into consideration: her tumour, her response to the tumour, and her environment. Our work is a unique combination of research into Biochemistry, Immunology and Diet & Lifestyle.

The truth about breast cancer in the UK today

· Breast cancer is now the most common form of cancer

· More than 45,000 women are diagnosed each year (that's 125 a day!)

· A staggering 1 in 9 women will develop the devastating disease

· Around 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year

What makes our breast cancer research unique?

· We focus on 'secondary spread' - the main problem with breast cancer

· Our Diet & Lifestyle Study, with 3,000 UK patients, is the largest of its kind in the world

· Our emphasis on finding a vaccine to increase survival is a groundbreaking approach

· A vaccine could stimulate immunity against breast cancer and possibly other cancers too

· Our research could enable earlier detection and treatment of breast cancer
