David Cameron's "vanity" photographer and website producer will no longer be paid out of the public purse and will return to Conservative Party payroll.

According to the Evening Standard, the prime minister has ruled that the appointments had "sent the wrong signal" at a time of public sector job cuts.

Cameron's photographer, Andrew Parsons and videographer, Nicky Woodhouse who formerly ran the Webcameron site, will now be paid their £35,000 salaries will from Conservative Party funds. They will leave their desks at the Cabinet Office and move down Millbank to Conservative Party campaign headquarters.

The pair had been appointed on short-term of fixed-term contracts, which allow the government to take on staff without advertising the positions publicly.

Cameron had faced challenges in the Commons over his decision to pay for a photographer from the public purse at the start of November.

Labour leader Ed Miliband joked: "This is good news for the prime minister - apparently he does a nice line in airbrushing.

"You can picture the cabinet photo - 'We are all in this together, just a little bit more to the right Nick'."
