'Now is the time to champion diverse employment'

British Retail Consortium7th February 2011

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) marks national apprenticeship week by emphasising the benefits of apprenticeships in the workplace.

As the UK's largest private sector employer, the retail sector has embraced the wider benefits apprenticeships can bring to individuals and to a business. Retailers both small and large offer apprenticeships which provide a varied and practical learning route and are open to employees of all ages.

Many retailers have been steadily increasing the number of apprenticeships they offer and remain committed to this form of training and learning for their employees.

To ensure retailers can continue to grow their apprenticeship offer it is vital that any unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape is removed to ensure programmes are simple and easy to deliver. With the retail sector forecast to create over 200,000 new jobs by 2017, the BRC believes now is also the time to champion the diverse employment and career opportunities offered by the sector.

'Retail in Society: Britain's Favourite Job' provides a flavour of the many job and training opportunities offered by different retailers across the UK.
