A group of MPs is expected to make a series of radical proposals in reform of the House of Commons when they present a report into the issue tomorrow.
A special 18-member select committee on reform of the House of Commons was appointed on the last day of the summer recess, July 20.
It has been tasked with advising on necessary reforms, including making select committee processes more democratic, scheduling more and better time for non-government business in the House, and enabling the public to initiate directly some issues for debate.
It has also considered the method by which the chairmen and deputy chairmen of ways and means, better known as the deputy Speakers, are appointed.
The committee, which consists of senior MPs from all three main parties and Plaid Cymru, may also consider other matters referred to it by the House.
In its report released tomorrow it is expected to recommend a beefed-up procedure for dealing with public petitions and elections for select committee chairman.
Conservative leader David Cameron and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg have said they support greater independence for committees.
