MPs claimed more than £10m in expenses in the second half of 2009, figures have revealed.
The House of Commons published details outlining what was spent on accommodation, office costs, communications allowances and incidental items in the second half of the 2009/10 financial year.
According to the figures, published on Parliament's website, in total MPs claimed £10,054,521 between July and December.
By comparison, the database shows that in the second and third quarters of 2008/09 a total of £11,768,749 was claimed.
Prime minister David Cameron, then Opposition leader, claimed £12,978 in the last six months of 2009.
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, set up in the wake of the expenses scandal, has faced a backlash from many MPs who claimed the new rules are overly complicated and draconian.
New expenses rules were unveiled in March following a lengthy consultation process.
