A charity single featuring rejected X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu has been the subject of an early day motion tabled by Jo Swinson, Lib Dem MP for East Dunbartonshire.
Swinson called on the MPs to support the release of the single, despite contractual obligations with the television show that prevent Nhengu from participating in its promotion.
Aberlour, a Stirling-based children's charity, will release the single - Where Will You Sleep This Christmas, featuring the teenager's vocals.
Earlier this year, Nhengu was told she must go back to her homeland of Zimbabwe after her mother's visa application was turned down.
A Home Office representative has said the case would be reconsidered and a "fresh decision will be made in due course".
The EDM urges MPs to "applaud the charitable work undertaken by Gamu Nhengu on behalf of Scottish Children's Charity, Aberlour Child Care Trust".
The motion notes the dismay that despite the act of charity on her part, Gamu has been "prohibited" from promoting the single's forthcoming release as it in direct competition with the show's Christmas number one bid.
It calls on MPs to "support and promote the success" of the record when it becomes available for download on 13 December 2010.
Swinson isn't the only MP watching the ITV talent contest, education secretary Michael Gove is said to be rooting for Matt Cardle and Labour leader Ed Miliband for boy band One Direction (Louis Tomlinson from the group comes from his constituency).

This is a very good trend, this shows how people are able to take the right decisions despite attempts to fool them through media and fix the things as the bosses wish. This time it will be very obvious how powerful is the general public openion and the truth behind that.
