A former GMTV political editor has been chosen to run for parliament in the safe Labour seat being vacated by former defence secretary Geoff Hoon.
Gloria De Piero, 37, won a postal ballot of Labour party members in the Nottinghamshire constituency of Ashfield.
Hoon took the seat in 2005 with a majority of10,213.
She stood down from GMTV in February after seven years to run for parliament.
In a statement she said she was "deeply honoured to have been selected".
"My message to the people of Ashfield and Eastwood is clear - I am on your side.
"I will live in the constituency and listen to the voters of Ashfield to ensure my priorities are their priorities.
"I will be a strong voice for Ashfield and Eastwood.
"If elected I will have a full-time office in the heart of the constituency and I will use my experience to stand up and ensure our communities' voice is heard."
De Piero is said to have been Tony Blair's favourite broadcaster.
In 2008 she was voted the 85th sexiest woman in the world in the FHM readers' poll.
