Following the publication of the Conservative Party manifesto this morning we have picked out some of the key pledges.
Parliament and constitution
Cut ministers' pay by 5 per cent, followed by a five-year freeze.
Reduce the number of MPs by 10 per cent and cap public sector pensions above £50,000.
Give voters the right to kick out MPs found guilty of serious wrongdoing through recall elections.
Any petition that secures 100,000 signatures will be eligible for formal debate in Parliament.
The petition with the most signatures will enable members of the public to table a Bill eligible to be voted on in Parliament
Introduce a new Public Reading Stage for Bills to give the public an opportunity to comment on proposed legislation online.
Equalise the size of constituency electorates, and conduct a boundary review to implement these changes within five years
Support the first-past-the-post system for Westminster elections.
Work to build a consensus for a mainly-elected second chamber to replace the current House of Lords
Establish a Backbench Business Committee to give the House of Commons more control over its own timetable
Consult with the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority on how to move away from the generous final-salary pension system for MPs.
Ensure that ex-Ministers are banned from lobbying government for two years after leaving office ensure that ex-Ministers have to seek advice on the business posts they take up for ten years after leaving office;
Rewrite the Ministerial Code to make clear that any former Minister who breaks the rules on appointments will be forced to give up some or all of their Ministerial pension;
Introduce new rules to stop central government bodies using public money to hire lobbyists to lobby other government bodies
Economy
Emergency Budget within 50 days of taking office.
Cut a net £6 billion of waste in departmental spending in 2010-11.
Freeze public sector pay for one year in 2011.
Reverse Labour's planned National Insurance rise for anyone earning under £35,000 next year.
Create a single Work Programme for everyone who is unemployed.
Boost small businesses with automatic rate relief.
Cut the headline rate of corporation tax to 25p and the small companies' rate to 20p.
Freeze council tax for two years and scrap plans for a revaluation.
Re-link the basic state pension to earnings and protect the winter fuel payment.
Permanently raise the stamp duty threshold to £250,000 for first-time buyers.
Set an annual limit on the number of non-EU economic migrants admitted into the UK.
Create an independent Office of Tax Simplification to suggest reforms to the tax system.
Cap public sector pensions above £50,000;
Bring forward the date at which the state pension age starts to rise to 66, although it will not be sooner than 2016 for men and 2020 for women.
Transport
Block plans for second runways at Stansted and Gatwick, while starting work on new high speed rail network.
Create a high speed rail line connecting London and Heathrow with Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds
Health
Give every patient the power to choose any healthcare provider which meets NHS standards within NHS prices.
Stop the "forced" closure of accident and emergency wards, and commission a 24/7 urgent care service in every area of England.
Education
Raise standards in schools by enhancing the status of teachers and allowing state schools the freedom to offer same high quality international exams that private schools offer.
Give parents the power to save local schools threatened by closure.
Home Affairs and Justice
Crack down on drink and drug-fuelled violence.
Cut police paperwork to get more officers on the beat.
Scrap ID cards, cut back surveillance powers and "intrusive" powers of entry into people's homes.
Give Parliament a vote on repeal of the Hunting Act.
Defence and Foreign Affairs
Create a new National Security Adviser and develop a National Security Strategy.
Double the operational allowance for Armed Forces serving abroad.
Introduce a referendum "lock" ensuring a vote on the transfer of any more powers to the EU
