BBC Radio 4 journalist Carolyn Quinn has been elected unopposed as chairman of the press gallery for 2011.

The Daily Mirror's Jason Beattie and Bloomberg's Rob Hutton were also unopposed as secretary and treasurer respectively.

There was an invalid nomination paper for the post of chairman.

Quinn presents The Westminster Hour on Radio 4 on Sunday evenings and Saturday PM.

She also regularly presents weekday PM in Eddie Mair's absence.

From 2004 to 2008 she was one of the presenters on Today.

She will take over the chairmanship from the FT's George Parker, who in the last week has hosted the prime minister at a lobby lunch and given evidence on behalf of the Commons press pack before a select committee.

Parker appealed to the prime minister and to the administration committee to intervene over plans to close Moncrieff's, the press bar and restaurant.

Nominations for the 10 positions on the press gallery committee open next Monday.
