The prime minister has defended having his wife Sarah accompany him at almost every turn of the campaign trail so far since calling the general election earlier this week.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Gordon Brown has said the "love of his life" had chosen to take on a high-profile role and they enjoyed "going around the country together".
Speaking at his first morning press conference, the prime minister said his wife had decided to accompany him campaigning for as much of the four weeks until polling day as possible, breaking off only when her charity commitments or two young sons needed her attention.
