TSSA's travel trade campaign

TSSA has represented travel trade workers for over fifty years, since Thomas Cook first came into existence as part of British Rail.

We currently have over 3,000 members in a number of travel trade companies, including Thomas Cook, Lunn Poly, Going Places, Thomson's, Travelex, Gulliver's Travels, Travel Choice, Holiday Hypermarkets, Turkish Airlines and Travelcare. Our members mostly work as sales consultant, shop managers and in call centres.

In 2002, TSSA began a five-year campaign to unionise the travel trade. Our target is to win recognition agreements (and more members) in all the high-street travel agencies.

This is an ambitious target, but the travel trade, with low pay and long hours, is exactly the type of industry unions should be organising in.
