Asylum figures fall
The Home Office has released figures showing further progress in the government's drive to bring down asylum applications.
Publishing statistics for the final quarter of 2003, the department revealed a fall of 35,000 claims on the previous year.
Just under 50,000 asylum applications were made last year, down from 85,000 in 2002.
