Morris launches kids film fund
A new fund for making children's films has gained the support of the government.
Films minister Estelle Morris said the launch of a new £1 million fund would help make more family-friendly films for children.
The cash will be used over the next three years by the Children's Film and Television Foundation to encourage writers, directors and producers to switch their efforts away from TV output.
The global success of films such as Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings trilogy means there is renewed interest in the genre but UK film makers are finding it difficult to compete with their international rivals.
"When I was a teacher I saw first hand how film can enchant children - sparking their ideas and imagination," said Estelle Morris.
"But UK film makers rarely target young audiences. So it's important that we support the creation of films young people want to see, introducing them to the magic of film from an early age.''
