Foreign Office roles revealed

The Foreign Office has announced the new breakdown of ministerial responsibilities following last week's reshuffle.

Europe minister Denis MacShane will also have responsibility for economic policy, the Balkans, the Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.Fellow minister of state Mike O'Brien, who combines his role with DTI responsibilities, takes on trade and trade policy in addition to the regions of South East Asia, South Asia, Afghanistan and North America.

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean takes control of matters relating to the Middle East, international security, consular issues and FCO personnel.

Junior minister Bill Rammell takes on board Latin America and the Caribbean. He will also act as day-to-day minister for the overseas territories, East Asia and the Pacific.

In addition he will speak on immigration and asylum policy, drugs issues, Russia and Central Asia and South Caucasus.

New minister Chris Mullin takes day-to-day control of matters relating to Africa and the Commonwealth - with additional responsibility for UK visas and the FCO's information directorate.
