Manufacturers rank ability over age, finds survey
Ability is a more influential factor than age in the manufacturing sector's recruitment process, according to a study published on Monday.
A survey conducted by the Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF) says that skill levels are the most important factor when recruiting staff.
The survey also found that contrary to popular perceptions, many companies offer training and promotion to older staff.
"The EEF believes that equality and diversity in terms of age, race, religion and sex is good for individuals and for business competitiveness," says the body's Peter Martin.
"This survey is a clear illustration that not only does manufacturing industry agree with this view, but that many companies are at the forefront of promoting equality in the workplace."
