Commenting on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy said:

"This is a moment for the entire nation to pause, reflect and be thankful for the Queen Mother's wonderful contribution and enduring legacy. The Queen Mother's story was the story of the 20th Century.''

"She will be remembered particularly by those who lived through the war years for the courage and leadership which she and the late King showed to our nation.'
